My local pump cuts me off at $35.00, which doesn't fill the van.

When I was in grade school, I read a few of those dumbed-down biographies of sports heroes, with lots of pictures, and easy to understand big moments. I first read about Bart Starr, and his triumph at the so-called Ice Bowl, when Lombardi called for the quarterback sneak rather than the safe field goal on fourth down and goal on the one. Then I read Roberto Clemente, and there was a moment when he was shopping for furniture in a white-bread neighborhood, and the salesman used that line "if you have to ask..." so Clemente flashed a roll of hundreds that could choke a horse and indignantly took his wife's arm and lead her out of the store. Ah, the memories. I remember reading that book in the bathtub, and crying at the end, when he died in such heroic fashion, sitting on 3000 hits. I'm such a softie.
