THOU SHALT NOT KILL THE CUTE ONES

Irony is never lost on the Dude.
Hai Nguyen, 24, was fishing off a Newport pier about 12:30 p.m. Friday when the sea lion snatched the bait from his fishing pole.

"It was close enough so he could just reach out and stab it in the water," said Sgt. Evan Sailor, a police spokesman. "A number of people witnessed it and called police."

The sea lion, a six-foot female weighing about 150 pounds, was stabbed in the heart and was euthanized. Nguyen could face a $25,000 fine and up to a year in prison if convicted on the animal cruelty charge.
Nguyen argues that the sea lion was in the act of committing a felony while Nguyen himself was in the act of killing sea creatures so no harm, no foul. Meanwhile, Pacific Marine Mammal Center employees are pushing to classify this as a hate crime and the woman who got raped on the pool table in THE ACCUSED wishes she had these witnesses in the bar that night.

Yes, the irony never ends. People around these parts take their high powered game rifles and go kill bambies in the surrounding mountains. Is that a hate crime? If Nguyen would have been an eskimo hunting sea lions, he would not have been fined. $25,000!? Give me a break! So the guy lost his temper on an innocent sea lion. Fine him $500 for wantonly killing a sea lion out of season and for losing his temper on an animal that does not know better. Let the punishment fit the crime.

Why doesn't the government give us a list of what we can hunt for food and what we cannot? I mean seriously..maybe he wanted to catch the sealion to eat it. This animal cruelty bs has to stop. I have been to the far east and there you can eat any animal you can catch (although you might not want to)and you have cockfighting, dog fighting...NO CRIME . Remember it only becomes a crime once you make something illegal and that usually creates an underground market resulting in guess what...MORE CRIME.
