Going through piles in my office and finding lots of stuff I was supposed to blog on. Like this confirmation of the Pirates' upcoming 16th consecutive losing season:
October 1, 2007
Yesterday's attendance was 25,664, putting the overall season attendance at 1,749,142. The total was the second-lowest in the National League this year but the ninth-highest in franchise history.
The team finished 68-94 and drew its 9th highest crowd. They could spend another $50m and still not make the playoffs, so why bother? They'll just field a team and cry all the way to the bank. Maybe the new ownership will initiate the latest in a series of failed five-year plans to restore respectability.
